February 5, 10:30am "Beauty Way" Rev. Ted Tollefson
Reflections on the sacred dimensions of beauty---how it connects us to what matters in our selves and the world entrusted to our care. Plus poetry by Mary Oliver: "Have you figured out yet, what beauty is for?"
February 12, 10:30am "No Empty Promise: The Possibilities of Emptiness" Rev. Karen Herring
“To be empty,” says Thich Nhat Hanh, “is to be alive.” Why, then, do so many of us fill our lives to the brim? And how, with our lives so full, do we welcome anything new – whether it’s new ideas or new habits, new friends or new possibilities? What promises and possibilities might be present in emptiness and why is it so difficult to protect empty space in our lives and to make room for these promises? Rev. Karen Hering, a former member of UUSRF, is consulting literary minister at Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul
February 19, 10:30am Hannah Sacred Ensemble performs "A New Creation" by Rene Clausen
"A New Creation" is a piece of church music, not of any particular sect, synod, or denomination; however, the piece does express a Christian point of view. That the piece is written in praise of God, whoever he and/or she might be, and in whatever form that God takes for each individual, seems to be essential to the understanding of the work. On the other hand, it is not intended to be evangelistic or religiously pedagogical.
February 26, 10:30am "The Art of Caring" Rev. Ted Tollefson
What are we learning about giving and receiving care in a community where many of us (including me) have great difficulty admitting that we need help? A couple of skits to encourage laughter, reflection and maybe some squirming.
